At Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It, we further our cause of inclusion and understanding through disability acceptance initiatives for educators. The belief that schools should be places where students feel appreciated, and acknowledged for who they are in addition to being centers of learning is our strong belief at DHIFI. As an organization dedicated to advancing inclusion, we offer educators practical tools to help students connect with one another through social-emotional learning, or SEL activities. These activities are crucial in building welcoming environments where each student is able to thrive.

Inclusion And Belonging Program

By providing a SEL curriculum for communities, we’re capable of making a real difference in the lives of students. Students can benefit from our social-emotional learning, or SEL activities in many ways, such as handling emotions, developing healthy relationships, and making informed decisions. Many students only connect with each other on a surface level, but building deeper connections is so much more important. There’s a large number of ways to do this, including sharing personal stories. We emphasize using storytelling as a way for students to connect at Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It. This way they can see the world through someone else’s eyes. This is an example of the real power of social emotional learning activities.

A Belonging Program

DHIFI knows how important it is to empower children with disabilities, which is why we’re a proponent of inclusivity activities for companies and acceptance activities for elementary school . For young people with disabilities, it is vital for their development, confidence, and sense of belonging to feel empowered. We strive to help these children achieve their full capability by appreciating their unique abilities and providing chances to display their capabilities. Supportive environments and inclusive programs foster resilience and self-respect, enabling young people with special needs to excel both academically and in social settings. When young people feel empowered, everybody benefits, as they’re able to make meaningful contributions to the society as a whole when they overcome challenges and begin speaking up for themselves.

DHIFI’s mission of advancing inclusion workshops for middle schools starts with Meg Zucker. Founder and president of Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It, Meg Zucker is among inclusion and inclusion’s most dedicated advocates. She has grown to celebrate her uniqueness, being born with a genetic disorder known as ectrodactyly. Helping others do the same is something she has devoted her life to. With a legal career covering decades and a personal commitment to building understanding and acceptance, she has used her experiences to empower individuals to embrace their uniqueness. With her leadership and vision, DHIFI continues to give adults and children alike the inspiration they need to live authentically and embrace what makes them extraordinary.

Disability Acceptance Workshop For Military Families

Together with SEL, assisting schools in incorporating empathy-based curriculum for organizations into their core curriculum is an essential part of our goal. Although many schools offer isolated lessons that incorporate acceptance, we believe we need to go further and weave it into the classroom and curriculum as a whole. Our Inclusion programs equip educators with the guidance and resources to foster a culture of belonging, where each student feels comfortable flaunting what makes them unique. By providing educators with the proper guidance and resources that our Inclusion programs provide, we’re able to create a culture of belonging where students are capable of expressing whatever makes them unique comfortably. We encourage educators to engage students in deep discussions about Inclusion, and inclusion, helping them to think on how differences such as race, ability, gender, and background shape individual experiences. Actively celebrating differences, not just acknowledging them, is what these conversations are all about. Understanding that differences are something to be proud of is part of this program. We hold the belief that everyone’s story deserves to be heard.

Self Acceptance Activities For Families

Project Flaunt is among our signature initiatives, offering icebreaker activity ideas classroom . Participants are able to share artwork, stories, or photos that reflect their individuality through the Project Flaunt Hub. We foster a safe space for embracing the things that make them unique and give them the opportunity to encourage others while they’re at it. We work with community organizations, summer camps, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
