Our aim is to teach young minds how to process their emotions, set constructive goals, express empathy, cultivate meaningful relationships, and make responsible decisions. We magnify the impact of SEL at DHIFI by urging learners to celebrate the things that make them unique, sustained by educational offerings that emphasize broadening SEL’s reach, encouraging students to take pride in their uniqueness, which is reinforced by endeavors that include:

  • Exchanging narratives: Students bolster their self-confidence and dismantle social obstacles that typically cause bullying, by sharing their own life stories.
  • Highlighting uniqueness: Our teachings reinforce that one of a kind features are beneficial resources, not faults.

We champion the championing yourself an others and others and promote individual respect from different walks of life, ensuring everyone is aware they have a place, no matter the differences they have.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
