The belief that schools should be places where students feel appreciated, and acknowledged for who they are while also being centers of learning is our strong belief at DHIFI. As an organization committed to promoting inclusion, we offer teachers practical tools to assist students connecting with one another through social-emotional learning, or SEL activities. When it comes to creating welcoming environments where every student can thrive, these activities are critical.

Inclusion And Belonging Programs

We strive to make a real difference in the lives of students by offering inclusion and belonging curriculum for students. Students are able to learn to manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and make thoughtful decisions with our social-emotional learning, or SEL activities. While many students connect with each other on the surface during school, they may need some guidance to truly connect on a more meaningful level. There are many ways to achieve this, including discussing personal stories. We emphasize using storytelling as a way for students to bond at Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It. This way they’re able to view the world through the eyes of someone else. This is an example of the true power of a social emotional learning curriculum.

DHIFI knows how important it is to empower children with disabilities, which is the reason we’re a proponent of a SEL program for educators and social emotional activities for the classroom . Motivating adults and children alike to be true to themselves and accept what makes them special is what her vision and leadership is based on.

Icebreaker Activities For The Classroom

Project Flaunt is one of our primary initiatives, offering SEL activities for students . The Project Flaunt Hub offers participants the opportunity to showcase their individuality through stories, photos, or artwork. We foster a welcoming space for celebrating the things that make them unique and offer them the opportunity to encourage others while they’re at it. Classrooms should be places where inclusion is celebrated, not simply accepted, and we know this is possible by expressing these stories. This program is designed to help kids and teens build self-confidence, empathy and healthy relationship skills.

We work with community organizations, summer camps, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
