Schools should be places where students not only learn but also feel valued, and acknowledged for who they are, and this is something we believe in strongly at Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It. As an organization committed to promoting inclusion, we offer teachers practical tools to assist students connecting with one another through social-emotional learning, or SEL activities. When it comes to building inclusive environments where each student are capable of thriving, these activities are essential.

SEL Programs

By offering an inclusion curriculum for educators, we can make a real difference in the lives of students. Students can become better at manage emotions, develop healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions with our social-emotional learning, or SEL activities. While a lot of students connect with each other on the surface during school, they might need a little encouragement to truly connect on a level that’s deeper. There are many ways to achieve this, like sharing personal stories. At Don’t Hide It, Flaunt It, we emphasize using storytelling as a way for students to connect, allowing them to view the world through each other’s eyes. Born with a genetic condition known as ectrodactyly, Meg has embraced her individuality and devoted her life to assisting others in doing the same. She has used her insights to inspire people to recognize their differences with a legal career stretching over decades and a personal dedication to building understanding and inclusion. Motivating children and adults alike to be true to themselves and celebrate what makes them unique is what her vision and leadership is based on.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
