Social Emotional Learning Programs

We believe that a SEL program for students can truly make a difference in the world. Social Emotional Learning is a core part of our work at DHIFI. The tools of SEL equip individuals, especially students, with the knowledge to understand and control emotions, build interpersonal relationships, and make informed decisions. SEL activities have the ability to enhance awareness of the experiences of others, encourage team building and encourage enhanced communication. Key to our mission at DHIFI is our dedication on bullying prevention programs for schools. A lack of understanding and recognition of differences is what often leads to bullying. Through interactive activities and honest discussions, we address the root causes of bullying and ensure students are equipped with strategies to take action against it. Giving students the tools and awareness needed to spot bullying behaviors around them and to fight back against them, we strongly emphasize kindness, empathy, and respect. This program is designed to help kids and teens build self-confidence, empathy and healthy relationship skills.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
