We amplify the impact of SEL at DHIFI by encouraging learners to celebrate their individualism, supported by offerings for education that emphasize growing the reach of SEL, encouraging students to feel pride when it comes to their uniqueness, supported by endeavors that include:

  • Story sharing: By sharing the experiences they’ve had with others, students gain confidence and address the barriers that many times produce bullying.
  • Showcasing uniqueness: Our teachings reinforce that distinctive features are valuable resources, not faults.

Championing the acceptance of one’s self and the acceptance of others, cultivating regard for diverse backgrounds, and guaranteeing a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter their uniqueness, are key parts of our goal.

DHIFI, created by Meg Zucker, is more than a nonprofit; it’s the realization of a personal journey toward self-acceptance. Meg and her husband, both with a unique genetic condition affecting their limbs, have three children, two of whom inherited the condition, creating a family deeply aware of the importance of accepting noticeable differences. Since its inception, DHIFI has grown into a dynamic force, empowering educational facilities, individuals and families to embrace and show off the qualities that make them unique, thereby turning obstacles into possibilities for growing and feeling empowered as an individual. This program is designed to help kids and teens build self-confidence, empathy and healthy relationship skills.

We work with community organizations, summer camps, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits.

During our 2019 annual President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) Symposium, Meg gave an impressionable presentation titled “What You Think of Me is None of My Business: Embracing Your Superpower” which embodied our theme of PCCW Celebrates One Cornell: Diversity and Inclusion.” Not only was Meg’s presentation insightful, thoughtful and impactful, but she captivated the audience. Sharing stories about those who go through life with visible and invisible differences made us aware that we all face difficulties and challenges in many ways, but together, through education and awareness, we can be compassionate, loving and caring to everyone, no matter the trials and tribulations ahead.
