We Are All Different By Rachel Oxenhorn (Age 9)

Rachel OxenhornMy name is Rachel. I am a 4th grade student at Daly Elementary School in Port Washington, New York.  Sometimes, I think I am the same as people, but I am learning that is WAY wrong. I am different in lots of ways and so are you!

One thing that makes me different is that I have a mood disorder which is not that common.  I get very angry easily and I have a difficult time controlling myself and calming down.  I put a lot of effort into getting through the school day, but when I go home I sometimes let my emotions loose. This makes things like getting my homework done and waking up in the morning very hard. I can also be very sensitive which can cause problems with my friends and family.  I work really hard on making things better for myself as well as the people I love and care about.

Another thing that makes me different is that I wear glasses. I wear them because I can’t see well out of my left eye.  In addition, I have a retainer that is helping my teeth.  These things make me look different.

These are my differences.  I have realized that everyone is different in their own way.  I am learning to be kind to others and be tolerant of everyone’s differences, just like people are kind and understanding of me.
