I am a HEARO! By Omar Huitzila Torres (Age 9)

Hi, my name is Omar. I am 9 years old, I am in the 4th grade. I like to play sports like basketball and soccer (I am really good at that). Also I like to play Roblox, Pokemon, and Super Smash Bros, because they are really fun to play. I like to read, especially books that are scary. Can you guess what my favorite foods are? My favorite foods are taco, lasagna, and salad- but I am allergic to strawberries, so keep those away from me!

My difference is that I wear a hearing aid. I was born deaf in one ear. My right ear is fine but my left ear can’t hear anything! My hearing aid helps me hear my teacher better. I also make sure that when people are talking to me they are on my right side so I can hear them clearly. In my old school, everyone in my class was like me-they wore hearing aids. That was awesome! Now I am the only one wearing a hearing aid in my class. It is still pretty cool. It is kind of like I have my own secret superpower.

I am proud of myself and my hearing aid. If you have a hearing aid or anything else that makes you different, always remember that what matters is what is inside.
